I can't believe it, but
they are.
The
original, with George Segal and Jane Fonda, and featuring Ed McMahon, was highly underrated in its time, and, in the 70s, was much more subversive.
I liked the films titles, which were based on those awful Dick and Jane reading primers from the 50s.
I liked the fact that it was one of the first films to show married couples as they actually lived, with Dick and Jane having a conversation while Jane was ensconced on a toilet seat.
I liked the oddball humor of the thing, the mariachi band scene, the "success gospel" parody, etc.
There simply is no reason to re-make this film.
Just re-issue the old one, dammit!
