A number of other blogs have commented on the passing of Robert Aitken. The man was one of the best of the first crop of American Zen teachers, and was one of the first teachers to strongly emphasize ethics in practice.
I regret never having had a chance to meet him.
I see towards the end of his life, he maintained his stance regarding Eido Shimano, and I can only say that I hope the NY Rinzai Zen community transcends what has been done; that temple has been of great benefit to me.

Paul: 6 degrees of separation. You wouldn't believe -ah, you probably would - to whom that connects to whom.
